Oxidation-reduction reactions are chemical reactions that involve a transfer of electrons. Read on to learn how to balance mass and charge to represent a balanced equation in an acidic solution.
Acidic Solution: Basic steps Using ½ Reactions
We will be using the following two reactions:

1. Break reaction up into half reactions (one is the oxidation and the other a reduction).

2. Balance elements other than O and H.

3. Add water to balance oxygen.

4. Balance hydrogen by adding protons (H+).

5. Balance the charge of each equation with electrons.

6. Scale the reactions so that the electrons are equal.

7. Cancel common terms.

8. Add the reactions.
