Why are sunflower seeds so addictive?

Many of us like cracking open a sunflower seed. But this one sunflower seed can often turn into 50 sunflower seeds being cracked open for the kernel. What makes these seeds so addictive?

There are numerous reasons as to why sunflower seeds leave us wanting more. For starters, they have numerous minerals and vitamins, such as Vitamin E. Therefore, if one lacks this vitamin, they may crave the seed.

Sunflower seeds are also addictive because individuals do not have to bite them in order to fully break them down. Due to the kernel’s small size, people can just swallow them whole and continue to reach for more and for more.

Many also find that biting the sunflower seeds can be satisfying and continuously open the seeds as a way to feel that satisfaction.

However, although eating these seeds may seem to be an addiction, the sunflower seeds provide many great health benefits, therefore sheding a positive light on the term addiction.

  1. For one, sunflower seeds provide great protein for the human body.

  2. The minerals that the seeds include are iron, zinc, calcium and many others.

  3. The sunflower seeds are also a rich source of antioxidants.
